Example of Research Stimulation Exercise (16)

STEP 1: Conduct quick research into the topic of the Mission: Create a 2-D or 3-D ink on paper product.

Research Categories PASSIVE MINING

What online/research-based mining could you do? Write the name of what you found AND the URL address.

IMMERSIVE MINING

What could you personally do to experience this mining method? To whom would you talk? What is their name and title?

User: The voice of the customer.
Market: Understanding direct and indirect competitors.
Patent: Finding inspiration from patents and technology.

 

Wisdom: Borrowing brilliance from academic or subject experts.

 

Foresight: Anticipating future shifts, leveraging current trends.

 

Unrelated: Analogies and force associating unrelated topics.

Step 2: Choose one discovery from the above research exercises that interest you most. You will explore and analyze your thought further within two categories:

Disruptive: What did you discover that changed your impression and inspired your curiosity?

Divergent: What different directions could you do to explore what you are curious about? Divergent thinking is characterized by “thinking outside of the box.This tends to involve the free flow of thinking to inspire spontaneous ideas that are the result of questioning/curiosity.

Name of the topic that interests you most Locate a new source of information that you found online.

 

Disruptive Information:

Summarize the information that is most interesting or unexpected.

Divergent Prompts:

Write two open-ended questions or ways to apply this information to spark additional thinking.
