3 Base Ten

Definition:

Our system for writing numbers uses only 10 symbols, called digits. The digits are 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9.  Each digit has a value that depends

on its place in the number. *

 

Example:

Kid Speak Definition:

A way we count and write numbers using 10 different digits, 0 through 9. In our base ten system, the digit’s place gives it its value.

We use a neat math manipulative with a catchy name–Base Ten Blocks–to explore how numbers are formed.
