Number Line

Formal Definition
A line of infinite extent whose points correspond to the real numbers according to their distance in a positive or negative direction from a point arbitrarily taken as zero

 

Kid Speak Definition
We use number lines to show numbers in order across a straight line. It helps to see the numbers beside each other and to see that, as we move to the right on the number line, the numbers get larger. As we move to the left on the number line, the numbers get smaller.
