Definition:

  1. The next number after 9.
  2. A ten is a unit of ten ones. A set of ten ones is called a ten. This is a big idea in our place value system because as soon as you have ten sets of ten, you can trade them for a hundred! And it goes on and on.
  3. There are lots of ways to compose the number 10. 5+5, 4+ 6, 3+7, 2+8 and 1+9 all sum to ten!
