Preface

This handbook has been designed to equip instructors with the skills they need to confidently find, use, or even create open educational resources (OER). To do this, the book has been broken up into five major sections covering important aspects of working with OER:

  • Getting Started
  • Copyright
  • Finding OER
  • Teaching with OER
  • Creating OER

In each chapter, learning objectives are provided to explain what the reader will learn and, in many cases, interactive exercises and examples are available as well.

This handbook was first released in July 2020 and updates will continue to be made as more content is developed and as feedback is received. You can provide feedback on the handbook in this short survey.

This chapter is adapted from Preface in The OER Starter Kit by Abbey Elder.
